In The Garden

‘In The Garden’ is a series of portrait photographs of flowers captured on 35mm film. Each photograph is taken in a garden, where the flowers grow naturally in a studio-like setup, remaining in their original environment, alive and unaltered. The intention is to recreate the visual clarity of studio portraiture within the garden itself. A plain background is used to isolate the subject, but without removing it from its surroundings. The process avoids any alteration to the flowers beyond framing, preserving their natural state.

The work balances constructed presentation with natural conditions. Light, texture, and surrounding elements are not eliminated but accepted as part of the image. This approach allows the flowers to be seen with a level of attention typically reserved for studio portraiture, while maintaining their connection to place. ‘In The Garden’ focuses on observation, presence, and the visual treatment of living subjects. It considers how a familiar subject can be reframed through simple intervention, shifting between natural context and controlled depiction without separating the two.
