The Forest Calls Her Back

The Forest Calls Her Back is a story set in the North, inspired by something told to me by a local man. It is not presented as a legend, but as something that may have really happened. The story follows a woman who slowly loses her connection to the human world as she becomes more deeply connected to the land around her.

At first, nothing seems unusual. She walks alone, speaks less, and spends more time in nature. But over time, something begins to change. She no longer thinks the way we do—she feels, reacts, and moves differently, guided more by instinct than by thought. The transformation is not violent or dramatic, but quiet and gradual. She does not resist it, not because she wants it, but because she cannot stop it.

As her connection to the natural world grows stronger, the boundaries between her body and the landscape begin to disappear. The forest, the animals, the cold air, and the empty spaces become part of her. She no longer experiences fear or distance in the same way. Even death is no longer something separate, but part of the same cycle.

The story explores themes of transformation, isolation, and the loss of identity, asking what happens when a person stops being separate from the world around them. It leaves open the question of whether she ever returns—or if she becomes something else entirely.
