A year after becoming a mother, I experienced a sense of emptiness, on one hand, I felt love and happiness, and on the other, I felt that my own dreams and interests were fading away. I was no longer the Sara I used to be dreamy and full of life. Something in me had changed.
Siempreviva is a path of personal exploration, where self-portrait and landscape merge to uncover my emotions after the transformative experience of motherhood.
During this time, I read a quote by Alexander Den Heijer that resonated deeply with me: “You often feel tired, not because you’ve done too much, but because you’ve done too little of what lights a fire in you.”
Lighting a spark within myself was what I needed at that moment, and photography became the bridge to my inner world. Looking at myself through the camera’s viewfinder and applying the technique of double exposure, I experiment by combining black-and-white and color images. The absence of pigment suggests a lack of motivation, while the color purple expresses life, as in psychology it is associated with the world of emotions, spirituality, and femininity.
Ultimately, Siempreviva is a reminder of the need to pause, look inward, listen to oneself, and reconnect with our own essence.
