We always take the same pictures. This sentence, heard a few years ago, has stayed with me like a nagging echo. It opened a door : the need to go through nearly twenty years of archives of travel and displacement photographs, to dive back into my inner geographies. My photographs carry within them the gaze of a child who wanted to leave – to visible places as much as to the edge between oneself and the world.
In the incessant breath of the world is a deeply intimate exploration of the notion of departure as a founding impulse, the perpetual movement of life, between here and elsewhere, presence and absence. These images – obsessive and repetitive – sketch out a liminal territory made up of fragments, silences and suspensions. The series reveals the traces left by displacement – solitude, loss and wandering – and also captures a connection to oneself and to life in those moments of communion when the breath of the world brushes against us.
From a personal narrative emerges a work inscribed in a larger dimension. It opens up a sensitive space, traversed by attachment and drift, where the imperious impulse to inhabit the world differently persists, tirelessly.
