WATER WOMEN

WATER WOMEN is a reappropriation and re-signification of the Catalan myth of the water women (‘dones d’aigua’). Traditionally confined to secrecy, mystery, and the darkness of night, they instead emerge into the light, inhabiting and taking agency over their own bodies and their own narratives.

Through self-portraiture and portraiture, the series explores the body as a porous territory where inner and outer worlds dissolve into one another. Water becomes a medium of transformation, memory and connection, shaping each unique body in its own way.

By invoking the fluidity, abundance, and transparency associated with Coventina, the Celtic goddess of fresh water, the feminine body expands into a broader ecology — one that links care, nourishment and vulnerability across both human and non-human worlds. The fusion of these bodies expresses the desire to rethink the spaces we cohabit, and how bodies, waters and identities continuously shape each other in coexistence.
