BREATHE

Breathe is a project born of necessity. After a devastating diagnosis in 2024, when prognosis and statistics both declared otherwise, I found myself still alive. Not cured. But not immediately in danger anymore either.

This sudden rupture and unexpected outcome gave me a space that no one thought I would have. I found myself covered in scars, both physical and emotional, but energised. With a need to move through the trauma. To share with others what I experience as necessary dialogue—to help understand what it is to face, to survive, but mostly to live with great adversity.

These images came to me in whole form. Choosing not to question the why or the wherefores, I launched myself into production. I work completely alone. That enables me to feel utterly uninhibited, and I believe gives the work its honesty and integrity.

The images have an ambiguity that is very important. They are more like emotional states rather than hard medical records.

The images speak to reclamation of self, of a renewed sense of being, and of the endless search for healing.
