Honorable Mention
I remember very clearly the first time I saw them, and the intensity of the emotion I felt in that moment,
an emotion that has stayed with me throughout the past 10 years I’ve shared with them.
A group of young people filled the space with an energy
that was overflowing, boisterous, almost untamable. The police and some people
present at the event were giving them suspicious looks. Where others
saw mainly a disturbing presence, I saw only beauty: an
intensity, a way of inhabiting the present moment with a rare freedom, a
powerful energy emanating from the group.
From that moment on, I felt a desire to understand what lay behind that first
impression, a need to delve deeper into these human connections that had
deeply moved me. In that initial whirlwind, I had glimpsed the portrait of a
different kind of youth, somewhat dissident. Far from current trends,
social media, and influencers, they had chosen as their reference a world where
rockabilly, psychobilly, punk, and other fringe influences resonate.
It was 2016, and yet their search for identity seemed rooted in another time.
These 15 images are a small part of their story.
They tell of another way of being together and of being in the world.
