Paper Hearts is a 35mm black-and-white photograph that addresses the internalised shame often associated with being Eastern European—a region frequently reduced to narratives of conflict, corruption, and crisis. By foregrounding vulnerability, intimacy, and self-expression, the work challenges the notion of a singular Eastern European identity. Instead, it seeks to reclaim an artistic voice for communities too often simplified by geopolitical narratives.
