In my ongoing exploration of my identity through self-portraits, I employ various forms of physical intervention in the portrait, employing collages, ruptures, and overlapping objects in an attempt to reconstruct the self and break it down into its components. Each time, it is an experiment on my self, which cannot be final. Identity manifests itself through fragments, through missing parts, through various forms of deconstruction. My work is based on the idea that a portrait is never a representation of the self; the self is composed of layers of experience, memory, roles, and emotions. Each time, these layers combine to form a different version of my self. It is simultaneously the same self, yet also a completely new construction.
