‘Cage’ is a self-portrait that challenges the insecurities caused by my chronic skin condition - dermatographia. Growing up, unsolicited remarks about the sudden appearance of blotchy redness across my skin dramatically impacted my sense of self-worth, and has had a lasting impact throughout my life. Photography has enabled me to not only accept my skin condition, but above all celebrate it as a powerful storytelling medium that questions the patriarchal notions on the woman’s body and place in society.
‘Cage’ explores the connection between the organic and the technological; combining my hypersensitive skin condition with 3D design and printing; a dialogue between raw sensitivity and engineered form. (No generative AI is used.)
