Every self-portrait is a partial lie. We choose the angle, the light, the expression — we construct a version of ourselves that is presentable, recognizable, acceptable. But identity resists performance: something always seeps through, even when we hide behind the image we have built of ourselves.
These works investigate the portrait as a performative act and self-representation as a form of necessary fiction — the kind we use every day to navigate the gaze of others, without ever fully ceasing to be ourselves.
